Accent Walls: When & Where They Work Best in Muskoka Homes

Updated: Oct 21, 2025

Accent walls are an easy way to add character to Muskoka rooms without overwhelming the natural surroundings or blowing your color budget.

Used wisely, feature walls can highlight lake views, architectural details, or rustic textures. But the wrong placement or color can clash or feel jarring.

  • Choose a wall that naturally draws attention (fireplace, window wall, entry wall) to be your accent.

  • Use deeper, grounded tones (forest green, navy, charcoal) or moody hues — they pair well with Muskoka’s wood, stone, and light.

  • Keep the rest of the room light and neutral so the accent pops without making the room feel small or dark.

  • Limit to one per room (or two in open-concept spaces), and consider finishes (matte vs sheen) to enhance texture.

Accent walls are a high-impact, relatively low-cost way to refresh a room, especially in cottages where view and light already set much of the mood.
